作者簡介
菲力普‧普曼 (Philip Pullman, 1946-)，20世紀以來最重要的英國童書作家之一。畢業於牛津大學，曾任西敏學院兼任講師，教授維多利亞時期文學與民間故事，專事寫作。除了青少年小說外，也撰寫劇本與圖畫書。
擅長採集童話、傳說與類型故事元素，揉合當代議題與驚人的幽默感。以英國維多利亞時代為背景的英倫懸疑四部曲（《紅寶石迷霧》、《北方之星》、《井底之虎》與《錫公主》），便編織了社會寫實、驚悚冒險、超自然元素、蒸汽幻想等多元類型風格，人物性格鮮明，情節曲折緊湊，更跳脫成人與兒童的分界，廣受好評，也奠定他在長篇小說寫作上的地位。
